2022 BMW X8 Rumors and Expectations

If we can trust the latest rumors, the Bavarian carmaker could introduce a new flagship model soon. The new model would come in the form of the 2022 BMW X8, reports say. We know what to expect from another even-numbered BMW crossover. Of course, we are talking about a coupe SUV layout, something that has become pretty popular in the last couple of years. The Bavarian carmaker already has three models of this kind on the offer, and this one would complete the offer for sure.

Despite that the officials have been quiet so far, it’s not hard to make some basic predictions about the 2022 BMW X8. This would be a full-size coupe crossover, which means it would be based on the X7 model. The two crossovers would share the mechanics, as well as many other parts. We count on the same aesthetics at the front, as well as on a lot of similarities on the inside. Finally, the engine lineup should look pretty much the same.

It’s still early for predictions about the 2022 BMW X8 release date, but we believe that the new model could arrive already in the next year.

2022 BMW X8 Design

When it comes to base design characteristics, things are pretty easy to be predicted. Without any doubt, this model would come heavily based on the X7 model. It would ride on the same CLAR platform and when it comes to 2022 BMW X8 specs, we would expect to see similar proportions. The wheelbase would be the same, though we would expect to see a few inches less in the total length, as the rear overhang would probably be shorter.

Most of the mechanics would be shared and that includes the suspension setup as well. Still, we wouldn’t be surprises to see a slightly stiffer setup, which would make the ride more engaging, aligned with the model’s sportier look.

Styling

Styling-wise, we don’t expect to see surprises, at least not at the front. This part shouldn’t bring any notable difference compared to the odd-numbered sibling, though there is always room for a couple of unique details. On the other hand, the rear end of the vehicle would be designed in a completely different manner. Instead of a classic SUV layout, we would rather see a sloping roof design, which would provide that coupe-like look. Such an approach would also cause the different design of taillights, as well as other kinds of modifications. Some would say an X6 in a bigger package.

Interior

On the inside, we presume that the dashboard would look the same as in the X7. That’s definitely a great thing, as we really like its design. It combines classic lines with a few modern touches and although it doesn’t look as flashy as rivals like Mercedes-Benz GLS, that elegant design definitely suits very well. Furthermore, the materials and overall interior quality are pretty impressive, while the amount of standard equipment is also pretty big.

What’s really intriguing about this model is the seating configuration. Given the sloping roof design, the third row would be notably tighter compared to the X7. This means that base versions could come with just two rows of seats, while the third row would be offered as options. The cargo area would be much smaller as well.

2022 BMW X8 Engines

No surprises are expected in this aspect. We have no doubt that base models will come with a well-known 3.0-liter inline-six, which puts out around 335 horsepower. If you’re up for something more powerful, count on V8 options as well. The first one in the offer should be the X8 M50i, which would come with a familiar 4.4-liter V8 that puts out around 523 horsepower. The same engine will be offered in the M model, but with much more power. The total output should go around 600 horsepower. All three engines would come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to fuel economy, the X7 equipped with inline-six returns around 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
