2022 BMW X6 Preview: No Bigger Changes to Come

The current generation of BMW’s coupe crossover has been around for a couple of years. Therefore, we don’t expect to see any bigger updates for the next year, even though some sources suggest the 2022 BMW X6 facelift. Simply, it’s still early for such changes. Bigger updates would rather happen in a few years. Still, we won’t exclude the possibility to see smaller updates, in terms of new features, color options and similar things.

All this means that you may count on a familiar layout, which has a lot of great things to offer. It may not be the most practical SUV around, but it offers excellent handling, strong powertrain options and plenty of luxury. Furthermore, we like the fact that the list of tech goodies is pretty long, including advanced safety and driver-assist features. Since we don’t expect to see bigger changes, we presume that the 2022 BMW X6 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2022 BMW X6 Design

As we’ve just mentioned, changes in terms of base design characteristics are not expected. The 2022 BMW X6 will continue with the same mechanics, based on the company’s new CLAR platform. Of course, it has most things in common with the X5, including the wheelbase, which goes a little bit over 117 inches. We particularly like the chassis and suspension setup, which makes this crossover easy and fun to drive. At the same time, the ride is quite composed.

Styling-wise, the X6 completely follows the brand’s contemporary design language. Modern aesthetics are easily notable at the front, where things are pretty much identical to the more conventional X5 sibling, which is about to get a facelift next year. Therefore, we presume that this model will come with similar changes soon after. Meanwhile, the 2022 BMW X6 will carry on in the same way, though there is always a chance to see a couple of new color options in the offer.

Interior

When it comes to the interior design, we definitely don’t expect any bigger changes. The current model already looks pretty impressive from the inside, featuring pretty much the same dashboard as the odd-numbered sibling. You may count on BMW’s typical design approach, which means a relatively simplistic layout, without kitschy details you can find among many rivals. More importantly, materials and build quality are on a pretty high level.

On the other side, this isn’t the most practical SUV around, as we already mentioned. Thanks to the sloping roof design, taller passengers will probably have trouble sitting comfortably in the second row. On the other side, the front seats are excellent in every aspect. Another issue with the sloping roof is poor rearward visibility, while the cargo area is also smaller compared to rivals. In numbers, it goes around 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 59.6 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Features

Novelties in this aspect are quite possible, but we expect that most of the things will remain the same as in the current model. This means you may count on a long list of tech goodies, which includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, 10 speakers, Bluetooth, and five USB ports. Also, there are also convenience features like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, a hands-free power liftgate, and a panoramic moonroof.

Higher trim levels offer various upgrades. For example, there are tech goodies like wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hot spot, hand gesture recognition, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, and a 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo, as well as convenience features like quad-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and rear sunshades.

2022 BMW X6 Engines

Things under the hood definitely won’t change, so you may count on three familiar options in the offer. Base models will continue with a well-known 3.0-liter turbo inline-six, which puts out around 335 horsepower. The offer continues with a bigger 4.4-liter unit, which puts out 523 horsepower, offering notably better driving dynamics.

Of course, you may also count on the 2022 BMW X6 M model. This one comes with an upgraded version of the V8 engine, which outs out around 600 horsepower. You can even get a Competition package, which brings several upgrades, including 17 more horsepower.

All engines come in pair with an excellent 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.

2022 BMW X6 release date

2022 BMW X6 Release Date and Price

The lack of novelties clearly indicates that the 2022 BMW X6 will come in a typical time of year. We presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year. The base price should go around 65.000 dollars. Of course, the competition remains the same and includes models like Audi Q8, Porsche Cayenne, Maserati Levante etc.
