2022 GMC Acadia Preview: No Bigger Changes To Come

The current generation of this mid-size crossover has been around since 2017 and if we consider the 2020 update, it’s pretty much for sure that we won’t be seeing full redesign for another couple of years. This also means that the 2022 GMC Acadia will continue in the same way, without more important changes. We are about to see a familiar layout, while the only possible updates are those minor ones. That would be updated in terms of new color options and similar things.

All in all, you may count on a familiar layout. The 2022 GMC Acadia will continue to deliver a lot of good things, starting from an attractive styling, comfortable ride, good fuel economy and intuitive tech features. Also, you may count on a couple of unique versions, with exclusive styling details and features

Considering that there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.

2022 GMC Acadia Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the current generation is expected to remain in production for a few more years. This means that you may count on a familiar layout, based on a familiar C1 platform. This model is trimmed to be smooth and comfortable, so you shouldn’t expect some nimble handling in this case.

Styling-wise, the 2020 refresh has brought a lot of improvement. We saw a completely new face, bolder and more prominent, with a lot of inspiration taken from BoF models like Sierra and Yukon. The next year won’t bring any particular changes, and that also refers to the 2022 GMC Acadia Denali, which has always been characterized by exclusive details such as chrome grille, wheels etc.

Another model that is characterized by unique styling details is the AT4 model. Also, this one comes with standard all-wheel drive, retuned suspension and hill descent control.

Interior

Once again, we don’t expect to see any particular changes. The 2022 GMC Acadia interior will continue in the same way, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Moreover, this cabin looks nice and features good overall quality. Furthermore, the Denali trim comes with a couple of exclusive details, such as different steering wheel, finer materials, unique color schemes etc. Still, rivals like Honda Pilot or Hyundai Palisade feel more upscale on the inside.

2022 GMC Acadia Interior

Besides decent interior quality, this cabin also offers a fair amount of passenger space. The first two rows are pretty generous in this aspect and there is really nothing to complain about. On the other side, the third row is cramped but that’s the case with most mid-size crossovers. When it comes to cargo volume, you may count on about 12.8 cubic feet behind the third row, 41.7 behind the second and 79 cubes of the total cargo volume. That’s quite decent for the segment.

Features

Novelties in this aspect are possible. The next year might bring a couple of new standard features but we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same. Therefore, all models should come standard with goodies like tri-zone climate control, an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, five USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Additionally, you can get tech goodies like wireless device charging, navigation, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, HD Radio, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

The same thing is with safety features. The current model comes standard with a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, a rear-seat reminder, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring with lane change alert. Optionally, you can pay extra for a head-up display, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, Rear Camera Mirror, a surround-view parking camera system, front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning etc.

2022 GMC Acadia Engines

What we like about this crossover is the engine offer. It starts with a simple 2.5-liter inline-four, which may not be the most appropriate choice for a vehicle like this one. However, it makes the Acadia quite affordable, while the fuel economy is also quite decent, as it goes around 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

The optional 2.0-liter turbo-four is the sweet spot, in our humble opinion. With 230 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, it feels capable enough to move this SUV confidently. Also, you may count on pretty impressive mpg ratings, which go around 22 in the city and 29 on the highway.

Finally, there is the V6. Of course, we are talking about a well-known 3.6-liter engine, which ensures the smoothest ride of all three engines and also offers the best driving dynamics. With 310 horsepower, it moves the SUV with ease and even provides some quite sporty performances. The 2022 GMC Acadia AT4, as well as the Denali, come standard with the V6.
