2022 GMC Jimmy: Everything We Know So Far

True SUV enthusiasts are sick and tired of modern unibody crossovers and they desperately need more genuine off-roaders in the offer. That’s why the 2022 GMC Jimmy is one of the most anticipated SUVs for the next year. The legendary Bronco already came back and it’s ready to compete with Wrangler. Now it’s GM’s turn and this model should be the answer. We expect to see it already in the next year.

At this point, it is still early to talk about details, but we know for sure that this model will come based on a genuine body-on-frame platform. We expect to see a rugged SUV appearance, capable and utilitarian. At the same time, we have no doubt that GMC will concentrate on the styling as well, in order to attract a wider range of buyers. Of course, we also count on a variety of powertrain options, including a diesel version. The company is still quiet about this model but we expect to hear something from the officials in the near future.

2022 GMC Jimmy Design

After years of waiting, Jimmy is coming back. Back in the past, this was a corporal sibling of Chevy Blazer. As the new Blazer came in a completely new direction, the two models won’t have much in common anymore.

Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform and rumors suggest two possible options. The first one is to see an updated version of the platform that underprints Colorado and Canyon pickups. However, keep in mind that this architecture has been around for a decade, so a pretty big update would be required if GM wants to offer a competitive vehicle. On the other side, there is a chance to see a completely new architecture, derived from the new T1 platform, which underprints the new Yukon, Sierra etc.

Exterior Design

When it comes to the exterior design, one of the first things that come to mind is the size. In this aspect, we expect to see the typical mid-size class dimension, which would mean around 110-115 inches in wheelbase. We presume that the wheelbase won’t go too long, as the company wants to make this SUV pretty off-road capable. Most likely, the new 2022 GMC Jimmy won’t offer a smaller two-door model like Bronco and Wrangler. Instead, will see a typical three-row crossover, which will primarily compete with Toyota 4Runner, in our opinion.

When it comes to the styling, we count on GMC’s contemporary design language. We are pretty sure that GMC won’t do any experiments and that it will rather offer a conventional styling, inspired by the latest Yukon and Sierra. This means a pretty bold and squarish face, with lots of rectangular shapes. The rest of the vehicle would come in a typical SUV manner, with short overhangs that would ensure a respectable approach and departure angles.

Interior

The 2022 GMC Jimmy interior should be pretty spacious. That is one of the first things that come to mind. Most likely, this SUV will come with the third row of seats, whether as standard or as an option. In any case, we count that the two rows of seats will be spacious and comfortable, while the third one would be typically tight for the class. The same thing goes for the cargo area.

When it comes to the dashboard design, we presume that full-size siblings will be used as inspiration, so the overall design approach should be pretty similar. This means attractive aesthetics, fine materials and a lot of latest tech features. More details will come in the upcoming months.

2022 GMC Jimmy Engines

When it comes to 2022 GMC Jimmy specs, we are pretty sure that there will be more than one engine option in the offer. Of course, the base model will come with a well-known 3.6-liter V6 with around 310 horsepower. The new 2.7-liter turbo-four also sounds very likely, especially if we consider its massive torque, which is highly beneficial in off-roading. The engine is rated at 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque.

Speaking of the torque, it’s hard not to talk about the 2022 GMC Jimmy diesel. This is also a possible option for the new SUV, which seems great both in terms of efficiency and utility. The current Canyon uses a 2.8-liter turbodiesel with 370 pound-feet of torque but wouldn’t be surprised if we see a 3.0-liter V6 unit, which is good for a pretty impressive 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

2022 GMC Jimmy Release Date and Price

This comeback may happen already in the next year, reports suggest. We presume that the base 2022 GMC Jimmy price would go around 30.000 dollars, though it’s still too early for more precise predictions. As we already mentioned, key competitors will be models like Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco and Toyota 4Runner.
