Five years ago, Chevy came up with its first all-electric vehicle, Chevy Bold. It was a five-door hatchback that is still in production and which still offers some respectable design characteristics. This particularly refers to the range, which is great even by today’s standards. However, it’s time to go on with improvements and the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV will be a result of it, at least one of them.
This will be a brand-new model, which will come with a completely new design, and as a crossover. It will be compact in size and once again, we expect to see some respectable numbers in terms of range and overall performances. The new model will hit the market sometime in the next year.
2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Design
GM isn’t particularly generous with giving details about this model, so it’s hard to go too much into details. However, there are some aspects of the crossover that are pretty clear. This particularly refers to the platform, as GM has developed a completely new architecture called BEV2, which will be used for several future models from this manufacturer. Of course, the first model to come will be this one, as well as the Bolt hatchback, which will come as the second generation of this nameplate.
At this point, we know for sure that the new crossover will be compact in size. It will measure between 105 and 110 inches in wheelbase and we’ve already seen a silhouette, which shows a rather typical, conventional crossover layout. We’ve also seen a teaser image that shows new headlights, which look super narrow and come in LED technology.
When it comes to interior design, we still don’t know too many details. GM showed a new center stack, which comes with a new infotainment screen that shows some fancy graphics of the battery status, range and similar things. However, the rest of the dashboard is still a mystery.
Given the model’s expected size, we can presume how much space will be there. You may count on typical compact SUV dimensions, which means that both rows should be able to accommodate adults confidently. At this point, we don’t know the exact numbers, but things should be pretty similar to the VW ID.4 and Nissan Ariya, which should be the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV’s key competitors. Considering that the new platform offers a design that puts the battery underneath the floor, the cargo area should offer some respectable numbers as well.
2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Battery and Drivetrain
This aspect of the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is also a complete mystery at the moment. Still, we count on notable improvements compared to the outgoing hatchback. In terms of the range, that would mean more miles on a single charge and the current model is good for about 260. We presume that the new model will aim at the magic number of 300, though we wouldn’t exclude the possibility to see multiple versions, with different battery sizes and output.
When it comes to the electric motor, the current Bolt comes with a 200-hp unit, mounted on the front axle. We expect notably more power in the new model, as well as an AWD version, with electric motors on both ends.
Another thing we should mention is that the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV should be the company’s first model to feature GM Super Cruise, a fully autonomous driving system, which works on more than 200,000 miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada. This system also allows the driver to change lanes by just using the turn-signal stalk.
2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV sometime next summer. The starting price will probably go around 40.000 dollars, roughly.
