In the world of mid-size luxury crossover, the GLE has always been in a group of leaders. The current generation is no exception but it’s worth mentioning that it’s been around since 2019. Also, the competition is getting updates and that particularly refers to models like Lexus RX and Volvo XC90, which are about to receive complete overhauls for the next year. That’s why the German manufacturer is working on a facelift, while the latest reports suggest the new model will arrive as the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE.
As you may presume, most of the updates will be about the styling. The test mule has been spotted and it shows a bit of camouflage. Furthermore, we believe we could see a few changes on the inside as well. On the other hand, the powertrain lineup probably won’t change, so the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE should carry on with familiar engines on the offer.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the upcoming update will be mostly about styling updates. The test model has been spotted and it wears a bit of camouflage. Furthermore, we like the driving position, which offers great visibility in all directions. The second row also offers plenty of space for adults, while we can’t say the same for the optional third row of seats.
The cargo area is good for about 33.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 74.9 cubic feet of total volume. That’s a pretty good rating for the segment.

Of course, novelties in this aspect are always expected but considering that the current model is already very generous in this aspect, we presume that most of the things will remain the same as in the current model.
The current model comes standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, “Hey Mercedes” virtual assistant, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, wireless device charging, Bluetooth, and five USB ports. Additionally, you can get upgrades like power soft-closing doors, four-zone automatic climate control, a cabin air fragrance system, a panoramic sunroof, 13- and 25-speaker sound systems and many more.
When it comes to safety features, the current model comes standard with goodies like a rearview camera, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams etc.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE Engines
Under the hood, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE should carry on with four familiar engine options on the offer. The base GLE 350 should continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 255 horsepower, which should be enough to satisfy most drivers.
The GLE 450 is the next in the line and it comes with a relatively new, super-smooth 3.0-liter turbo inline-six, which puts out 362 horsepower. The GLE 53 uses the same engine but gets an additional supercharger, which provides a max output of 429 horsepower. Finally, there is the GLE 580, equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which puts out around 483 horsepower.
All models come coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Also, the GLE 53 and GLE 580 come equipped with a 48-Volt mild-hybrid system. All-wheel-drive is standard in all but standard GLE 350 model.
