After the release of the Cadillac Lyriq and the announcement of the Lincoln SUV with an EV drivetrain, the leading Japanese carmaker had to react. And here it comes, the Lexus RZ450e, an all-electric SUV that is about to debut in Australia. We won’t wait for too long until the Lexus electric SUV hits the US dealerships.
The RZ450e is already added to the official site as the 2023 YM. But, we don’t think it will happen so soon. The production might start next year, but the vehicle will be there for the season 2024. At least in the US. Meanwhile, Australian buyers are already expecting the arrival of the new model.

This is not bad for a premium SUV. The company is also announcing a few notable novelties. The eAXLE layout provides more space inside the cockpit but doesn’t harm the overall driving experience. The Direct4 AWD is standard. This is something special since the power distribution can go from 100:0 to 0:100. The RZ450e is the pioneer in the Lexus EV family, so we can’t say that stability, acceleration and efficiency are the best in the class. We’ll see what other vehicles will have to offer in the foreseeable future.
Design
Of course, designers will have a special task – to make the Lexus electric SUV unique, but also to keep the soul of the family. This is a totally different world. Nevertheless, the futuristic approach is something everyone expects. The eAXLE system will provide more headroom and cargo space. The SUV is 4800 mm long, 70 mm shorter than the RX.
The company brags about the futuristic approach. The HUD is standard and synced with the steering wheel. The RZ also comes with navigation and a few drive modes. Everything is luxurious inside, even more than many fans expected. The Ultrasuede-trimmed upholstery is a great addition and it uses only biomaterials. The Shadowy illumination has a debut. Those are project lights on to the door trim. Another notable feature is a panoramic sunroof.

A few more things we know about the 2023 Lexus RZ450e. First, the 2023 YM is confirmed only on certain markets. It is not the first time that American buyers have to wait a few months to see debuts of electric Japanese vehicles. But, it will be worth waiting. The Lexus electric SUV comes in seven unique paints. These are Iridium, Caviar, Eminent White Pearl, Cloudburst Grey, Ether, and the combination of the last two with Black Onyx. Interior themes are Palomino, Thunderstorm, and Dapple Grey. The price in Australia starts from $55,000.
