The current generation of Mercedes-Benz’s entry-level crossover has been around for a while and we are pretty sure it still has a couple of years before it gets some more notable updates. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA will represent the third production year and, therefore, it’s pretty much for sure that it won’t feature bigger changes. We expect to see familiar design characteristics, though there is always a chance to see minor updates, such as new color options, new standard features and similar things.
All in all, we count on familiar pros and cons. This crossover offers attractive styling, along with a wide range of capable engine options. Furthermore, fuel economy is very good with the base engine. The cabin is spacious and comfortable, while the infotainment system is easy to use. On the other hand, the cargo area is small, while the interior quality could be better.
With no bigger changes to bring, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA will probably hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA Design
Design-wise, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA will continue in the same way, based on the new, second generation of the MFA platform. Compared to the previous generation, the new model looks more elegant and more mature. The profile is sleek, while the overall shape resembles a hatchback, rather than a crossover. It still looks fresh and competitive, so we are pretty sure that the next year’s model won’t bring any notable change, other than new color options on the offer.
When it comes to the chassis and suspension setup, the GLA is on the soft side. It offers a smooth and comfortable ride, though it doesn’t sacrifice its sporty side completely. You can still get a decent portion of the sporty ride.
Interior
The interior of this crossover is a mixed bag and, unfortunately, that won’t change with the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA. You may count on the same layout, which offers a little bit of uninspiring interior design. The dashboard looks good but lacks fancy details that can be found in bigger siblings. More importantly, the build quality isn’t all that good and rivals like Audi Q3 and BMW X1 feel notably better in this aspect.
The passenger space is pretty generous. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the driving position is very good. The second row is also generous with space and comfortably accommodates adult passengers.
On the other hand, we can’t say the same for the cargo area. This aspect of the GLA isn’t great, as you may count on just 15.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats, which is poor for the class. On the other hand, the total cargo volume goes around 50 cubic feet, which is on par with most classmates.
Features
The next year’s model could bring a couple of new standard features but most of the things will definitely remain the same. Therefore, all models should come standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, 7-inch instrument gauge screen, a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, voice recognition, HD Radio, four USB ports, and a six-speaker stereo. In terms of safety, we expect that all models will come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing windshield wipers, crosswind assist etc. The list of options should include adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, surround-view camera, head-up display, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and many more.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA Engines
Things under the hood will continue in the same way for the next year. Therefore, base models will come with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out 221 horsepower and offers decent performance. It’s a great choice for daily commuting, especially if we consider that the average fuel economy goes around 24 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.
If you’re looking for something more capable, there are two AMG-badged models as well. The first one is GLA 35, with 302 horsepower, while the more capable GLA 45 model features a max output of 385 horsepower.
All engines come coupled with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
