Mitsubishi is all about crossovers these days, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see genuine SUV models in the future. Moreover, one of them has already been confirmed. Of course, we are talking about the Pajero Sport, a mid-size SUV that is based on the popular L200/Triton pickup truck. However, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer is planning to bring back the full-size Pajero/Montero, which hasn’t been redesigned since 2006. Interestingly, that generation is still available in certain markets, particularly in China. Allegedly, the next generation will come as the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero, probably already in the next year.
At this point, we still don’t know anything for sure about this model, but we can make some predictions. This particularly refers to base design characteristics, while it’s still early for details. As we’ve just mentioned, the new model could arrive already in the next year, so official details should start arriving soon.
2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Redesign
The new generation of the legendary off-roader will come after 14 years. Therefore, expectations are huge. Allegedly, the Japanese manufacturer plans to offer this model globally. This includes North America as well, where it would come with a familiar Montero name.
At this point, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. Since Mitsubishi is now part of the Renault Nissan Alliance, the new model will most likely share its parts with the Nissan Patrol, which is known as Nissan Armada in North America. The two models would ride on the well-known F-Alpha platform.
The two models would share mechanics, maybe even some styling parts. Moreover, some rumors suggest that the two models would most likely feature the same shape and overall exterior design, while the biggest difference would be at the front. In this area, the new 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero would feature the brand’s latest design language, which probably means a lot of similarities with the recently-facelifted L200/Triton.
Interior
Given that the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero is still just a rumor, it’s obvious that the cabin of this model is still a complete mystery. This particularly refers to dashboard design. Still, if we consider that the previous generation was pretty luxurious, we expect nothing less from the new model.
On the other side, we can make some predictions in terms of dimensions and interior space. This should be a genuine full-size SUV, so something around 120 inches in wheelbase sounds okay. This means three spacious rows of seats and a pretty generous cargo volume.

Once again, we should look in Nissan’s backyard. The current generation of Patrol/Armada uses a large 5.7-liter gasoline engine, which puts out around 400 horsepower. In certain parts of the world, you can also find a 4.0-liter V6 engine.
However, the new model could come with something smaller and more efficient. This would mean something with a turbocharger, probably with a six-cylinder. Furthermore, some sources suggest we could even see Nissan’s new 3.8-liter V6 within the offer. This model debuted in the new Frontier and delivers around 310 horsepower. A diesel version is possible in certain parts of the world.
Mitsubishi is well-known for build extremely environment-friendly plug-in hybrid powertrains. Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see something like that in the offer too. At this point, this is just speculation.
2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Release Date and Price
As we already mentioned, the new 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero has been rumored for the next year. However, keep in mind that the officials are still quiet on this matter, so you should take everything with a big reserve. If it arrives, we presume that the base price would go somewhere around 50-55.000 dollars, roughly. Key competitors would be models like Toyota Sequoia, Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition etc.
