2022 Chevy Trailblazer Preview: Change, Features, Price

The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer comes as the second model year of the current generation and therefore, it was pretty much expected to see no bigger changes. The overall design is the same but there are some changes regarding the trim level organization. The L trim level has been discontinued, so base models now come with more standard equipment but also feature a higher starting price.

All in all, you may count on a familiar layout, which has a lot of good things to offer. We like the model’s attractive styling, as well as a pretty spacious cabin. The amount of passenger space is good, while the cargo area is pretty generous as well. Finally, there is a pretty user-friendly infotainment system. On the other hand, we don’t like the base engine’s lack of power, while the optional unit isn’t much more impressive either.

Despite the lack of changes, the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer is already available on the market.

The revived Trailblazer was introduced to the North American buyers last year and even though it doesn’t have too many things in common with the old model, it certainly has a couple of good things to offer. It is based on the company’s new VSS platform and it offers a modern design approach to the subcompact segment. The platform and chassis are quite sporty, so you may count on quite engaging handling and pretty precise handling. The overall performance is athletic, but rivals like Mazda CX-30 are even more impressive in this aspect.

As far as it goes to the styling, the current generation is still fresh, so it was expected to see the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer without more important updates. Still, there are new color options like Crimson, Blue Glow, Vivid Orange, and Mahogany Red.

Logically, the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer interior comes without more important updates. This cabin has a lot of good things to offer, starting from a lot of passenger and cargo space. The front seats are spacious and supportive and offer a lot of leg and headroom. The rear seats are also pretty good for the segment. Two adults can accommodate with ease.

The cargo area is also pretty good for the segment. You may count on about 25.3 cubic feet of space with its rear seats upright and 54.4 cubic feet, and that’s pretty good for the segment.

On the other hand, the interior quality isn’t that great. This is probably one of the model’s weakest points. There are a lot of hard plastics inside the cabin, the fit and finish aren’t great, while the sound insulation is bad, even for this segment. Models like Mazda CX-30 and Hyundai Kona feature much nicer cabins.

As we’ve just mentioned, the base L trim has been discontinued. Instead, the offer starts with the LS trim, which offers more standard equipment but also costs more. So, all models come standard with goodies like keyless entry, a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, you can get upgrades like an 8-inch touch screen, additional USB ports, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, HD Radio, and wireless device charging, as well as a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, push-button start, and remote start.

When it comes to safety, all models come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning. Additionally, you can get upgrades like cruise control, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors etc.

2022 Chevy Trailblazer Engines

The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer continues with two familiar engine options on the offer. Base models come with a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, which puts out 137 horsepower and comes in pair with a CVT gearbox. Driving dynamics aren’t particularly great, though this version may serve as a decent daily commuter. The average fuel economy goes around 29 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

Optionally, you can go for a slightly more capable 1.3-liter engine, which puts out 155 horsepower. Driving dynamics are slightly better, while the main advantage is actually a nine-speed automatic transmission. Also, this version is also available with an all-wheel drive. Interestingly, fuel economy is better and goes around 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
