After the expansion of the lineup for the current season, we don’t think the 2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport will bring any major change. The company is preparing a new version. We might witness the return of the Pajero badge next year. However, everything is just a rumor and we will focus on a smaller Sport version.
Changes for the 2022 YM increased the price of the entire lineup, and that is the major downside of the facelift. The Montero Sport is not available worldwide, and it is the most popular in Australia and Pacific Asia. In some markets, you’ll find it at dealerships under the name Montero Sport.
The 2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is a big wish of American fans. The versatility and off-road capability of the small SUV are incredible. But, it is unlikely to see its release here in the next couple of seasons. Mitsubishi is doing a great job in North America, and expansion is a logical move. One of the potential upgrades of the lineup is definitely the Pajero SUV.
2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Specifications
Under the hood of the 2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport lays a 2.4-l turbodiesel engine with 133 kW (180 horsepower) and 430 Nm (315 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed auto gearbox sends power to all four corners. The company deploys the Super-Select II system for the full-time 4×4 drive. There are still modes to select if you want a high or low-range gear switch. A rear-wheel drive is also optional at lower tiers.
Unfortunately, if Mitsubishi plans to bring the Montero Sport to the US, a diesel engine is not likely to happen. The mileage of this SUV is exceptional, but emissions are exceeding the limits set by the EPA. Just for the record, the vehicle is consuming 8 liters of diesel per 100 km. Converted to miles-per-gallon, it is 29 mpg.
2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Dimensions
After the retuning, the SUV is 4825 mm long (190 in), 1835 mm tall (72 in) and 1815 mm wide (71.5 in). The vehicle rides on the 2800 mm (110 inches) wheelbase. The cargo capacity is very tight for the seven-seat model. A two-row layout can take 18 cu-ft behind the rear row, and the maximum cargo space is 56 cu-ft. Towing capacity rating climbs to 3,100 kg, which is 6,800 pounds. It is more than many mid-size SUVs in the US can do. The approach angle is 30 degrees, and the departure is 24.2. There is a 220 mm (8.6 inches) gap between the body and the ground.
Features and Safety
Here is what the 2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport brings through its trim levels. Safety is definitely a highlight of the SUV. It received the highest rating by ANCAP. The package contains emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera, and parking sensors. Things such as blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera are optional or available at higher trim levels.
The standard package also includes an 8-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, electronic parking brake, keyless entry and start, and LED lights. Leather is wrapping the steering wheel and the gear stick. The sound system is definitely not a highlight for the entry-level model. A two-row layout turns into a three-row setup on higher trims. Plus, the mid-range models are adding automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a power tailgate, zonal climate control, and more speakers for the audio system. The Deluxe package is an upscale upgrade eligible for higher trim levels.
Still, those versions will pack the 2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport with the most advanced technologies. Here, the blind-spot monitoring is standard, as well as the surround-view camera system, and heated front seats with power adjusting. The special GSR model enhances the look with dark 18-inch alloy wheels and a contrasting roof, black bumpers and headlight garnishes, and a unique grille.
