2022 Chevy Blazer Preview: Changes, Specs, SS, Release Date

Considering that Chevy is currently busy with updating other models, the 2022 Chevy Blazer refresh will have to wait for its turn. The next year shouldn’t bring any particular change. We count on a familiar design, which was introduced less than three years ago. On the other side, we can hear rumors about the possible hi-performance version. How likely that version sounds, we will leave you to make a judgment.

On the other side, standard models will continue in the same way. You may count on a crossover that looks very attractive and comes at a quite affordable price. Also, we like the wide engine lineup, as well as the amount of passenger space. Also, handling is pretty good, though some may find the ride quality a little bit too firm.

As there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Chevy Blazer release date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.

Initially, both experts and the crowd weren’t particularly impressed with the comeback of the legendary nameplate. Once a capable SUV, the Blazer became nothing more than a typical crossover. After a while, this model was accepted and it turned out to be a pretty good vehicle. It rides on a familiar C1 platform and with 112.7 inches in wheelbase, it features a quite typical size for the segment. Visually, it closely resembles the Camaro muscle car, and that’s what we really like about it. The next year shouldn’t bring changes in that aspect.

On the other side, many believe that the next year could bring a hi-performance version. Allegedly, this version would come as the 2022 Chevy Blazer SS, bringing back the legendary badge. Of course, we would see all kinds of upgrades, starting from a more powerful engine, chassis upgrades, exclusive styling details etc. Unfortunately, the officials are quiet about this model.

Interior

If you look at the cabin of this crossover, you can find both good and bad things. At first look, the dashboard looks very attractive. We really like the round vents and other shapes that make this cabin look really sporty. However, if you dig a little bit deeper, you will find that there are several areas with low-rent materials, something you would expect to see in a mid-size crossover. Fortunately, the key rival, Ford Edge isn’t much different in this aspect. On the other side, models like Honda Passport and Hyundai Santa Fe feature finer materials and look more upscale.

What we really like about this cabin is the amount of passenger room. Adults can enjoy a comfortable ride in both rows of seats, as there is plenty of leg and headroom. Still, the cargo area isn’t that impressive. You may count on 30.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 64.2 cubic feet of the total cargo space, which is still below average for the segment.

Features

Yearly updates usually bring novelties in terms of standard equipment but we don’t expect that the 2022 Chevy Blazer will come with too many changes in this aspect. Instead, most of the things should remain the same as in the current model. So, base models will come with goodies like keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, four USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay etc. A rearview camera is the only standard safety feature.

If you’re willing to pay extra, there are numerous options in the offer. Some of the highlights are things like navigation, wireless device charging, satellite radio, and an eight-speaker Bose sound system. Also, the list of available safety features is pretty long and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, lane change alert, lane departure warning, lane keeps assist, a rear camera mirror, a surround-view parking camera system, high-speed automatic emergency braking etc.

2022 Chevy Blazer Engines

One of the reasons for the low starting price is the engine lineup. This model comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit, which puts out around 193 horsepower. It is a good choice if you need a daily commuter. On the other side, the optional turbo-four would be a better option if you do a lot of open road driving. This one puts out around 230 horsepower and also offers better fuel economy. You may count on about 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Those are some of the highest ratings in the class.

Finally, there is the 3.6-liter V6 with 310 horsepower, which offers quite respectable performances. All three engines come with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which does a quite decent job.
